Annual General Meeting 2020
On behalf of our board, we have great pleasure in inviting you to attend MND Tasmania’s annual general meeting (AGM) to be held at Paranaple Convention Centre, 137 Rooke St, Devonport.

When: Sunday March 15 at 10am
At the meeting we will report to members on the association’s performance during the year to December 2019 and our outlook for the coming year.
We look forward to seeing you on the day!

Back Roads: ABC TV - Sailability at Wynyard Yatch Club
When Chris Symonds was diagnosed with a rare Motor Neurone Disease (Kennedy's Disease) he thought he’d never sail again. Instead his local yacht club started a Sailability program and now he’s winning international competitions.

MNDRIA awards $3 million in research grants
The MND Research Institute of Australia has announced close to $3 million in MND research grants to help bring us closer to a world with out MND.
A total of 23 grants were awarded for projects starting in January 2020, including the $250,000 Betty Laidlaw MND Research Prize, won by Dr Shyuan Ngo from the University of Queensland.

MND Tasmania - Income and Operating expenses for Financial Year End 2018
Motor Neurone Disease Association of Tasmania (MNDTas) is a state-wide not for profit organisation governed by a volunteer Board. It does not receive assistance from the government and is funded entirely by the generosity of others.
The below chart indicates the origins of the income and highlights the vital role of fundraising within the Association.

New Tasmania DHHS resource with some relevance for Tasmanian's with MND
A new healthy ageing website has just been launched by the Tasmania Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). It's full of useful information and resources to help those aged over 65 to stay well.
Take a moment to explore the website - you'll find nutrition and physical activity resources, recipes, video clips, links to free online training, key contacts and suggestions for support.

This is contains information developed for use by health and community workers who have direct contact with independent living older people (people over the age of 65). Electricity Concessions - Tasmania
Tasmanian Government Electricity Concessions: Life Support, and Medical Cooling or Heating
Within Tasmania, the State Government offers the following electricity concession schemes for certain medical conditions:
a. The Life Support Concession; and
b. The Medical Cooling or Heating Concession
About the concessions
Both concessions provide a daily discount to eligible domestic electricity customers who use, or live with someone who:
• uses a life support system; or
• requires cooling or heating to manage a medical condition.
Important: Applicants for either scheme must apply annually, and a medical practitioner must certify the application.

The Motor Neurone Disease Association is pleased to announce the first announcement and call for papers for the 30t International Symposium on ALS/MND that will be held in Perth, Australia on 4-6 December 2019.
Registrations will open in March 2019
Online submissions will open on 6 May 2019
Abstract submission deadline is 5 June 2019
