The ice bucket challenge initiative has been immensely successful in raising awareness for motor neurone disease. This debilitating and fatal disease has no known cause or cure. Since the ice bucket challenge commenced more than 50,000 Australians have donated in excess of $2.3 million to motor neurone disease research or to provide practical support for the nearly 2000 people with motor neurone disease and their families across the country.

In Tasmania we have received $22,329 in donations from the many ice bucket challenges people have performed. MND Tasmania also received $20,000 from the national association MND Australia as part of their fundraising.  Carol Birks from MND Australia speaks about the future of the ice bucket challenge at the end of an interview on the Sydney Morning Herald website here.

A heartfelt thank you to all those people that have been so generous in donating and participating in the ice bucket challenge.
